JAY BUSBEE writing on Yahoo had an article praising the Argentine victory over England in today's World Cup. Though he and I agree on basic facts, we disagree on their meaning. He was my comment on his article -
To some extent I agree with the author's first paragraphs, but put it in a different context.The word for the Argentinians is INTIMIDATION. Beginning before the game, when all asked to stand for the national anthems of both contending nations, the Argentines shouted so loud, no one could hear the English anthem. Then the game began. Wolverines, no. Just Argentines determined to foul, knock down and opponent, stop the game, and keep it up with a beweildered set of refs. This is how they stole the previous game against Egypt, one which Egypt should have won, but the refs stole a beautiful Egyptian goal. When heat did it's job on the players near game's end, Messi wound up and scored, against Egypt the other day; against England today. But the real reason Argentina won, - sympathetic refs with a Messianic complex. Hope they are barred from the 2030 World Cup. Better still; give the final to Spain!---- I admit, I am no expert, just a spectator. Hugh Murray
